The heart of the Science as a whole methodology is interdisciplinary learning. Implementing interdisciplinary learning effectively, depends heavily on science teachers' collaboration. Teachers' collaboration is essential not only for implementing interdisciplinary projects but also to resonate every day classes and allow teachers to make cross-overs and references to each others' classes when teaching concepts that are related.
When it comes to interdisciplinary projects, POLAR STAR's STEAM Education methodology offers all the necessary guidelines and background information needed for teachers to empower them and help them design effective projects for their students.
When it comes to every day interdisciplinary teaching, teachers can use the tools offered in the 'Tools for students' section (the knowledge hive and the knowledge map) to work with their students. Beyond that however, the most effective way to build bridges between the science disciplines is if teachers teaching different science disciplines coordinate their teaching. To that end, we have designed a workshop to demonstrate to teachers how they can coordinate their classes throughout a school year and start building connections between concepts for their students by making crossovers and building bridges between classes of different science disciplines.
This hands-on teachers' participatory workhop can take place (preferably at the beginning of a school year) in any school unit. Science and other STEM teachers can participate and work on any grade they wish. Below, you'll find all the files necessary to perform this workshop in your school.
